Happy Valentines Day!

Kia Ora everyone

Today I want you to write a post about your weekend. What did you get up to? What was a highlight? What wasn't so cool?

I also want you to complete the following task:

Sellabration

In our first media lesson, you identified that advertising was a part of the media. It influences us to buy and think about products and brands.

Below is a link to a segment on Campbell Live a few nights ago. Watch it and consider the following questions. Copy and paste the link into a new window.

http://www.3news.co.nz/Classic-Kiwi-ads-go-online/tabid/367/articleID/142301/Default.aspx

1. How the ads we watch today different from the ads featured in the segment?

2. How is the KFC ad politically incorrect?

3. What are your favourite ads and why?

4. What ads do you easily remember even if they are not your favourites?

Now go to the film commission web site and consider question 1 as you watch the ads.

Copy and paste the address into a new window.

Question 1) One of the reasons for why the ads that we watch today are different to the olden day ones is because they had black and white ads...
Another reason is because when they promoted something, at the end, they would put in someone of the opposite sex. And also, for instance, the kentucky fried chicken ad... they used "jingles". The McDonalds ad shows how they make the burgers and things, but now they have the burgers specially made by a professional food decorator who takes a lot of time to arrange the burgers so they look perfect(so they can't show how it's made). Another thing I noticed was that most of the ads were songs that were sung by the people in them.
Question 2) It is politically incorrect because...the people buying the chicken are children, and back then, children were closely protected by parents. So why did the children go?
Question 3)My favourite ads are the kentucky chicken ad, because i've heard it before, and the tune is very catchy... "Life isn't funny, with an empty tummy, thanki goodness for kentucky fried!"and the McDonalds one because the music is "country" and it's funny to me.
Question 4)I remember ads(even if their not my favourites) if the tune is catchy, because i quite like singing along to them, or if the presentation is cool.

3.I can't think of one at the moment but it would have to be the miter ten add with the two little boys.

1. The ads are really different when it comes to the quality and most of the ads are in Black and white. Most of the ads now are really loud and a lot of them have humour.
2. The KFC is politically incorrect because of the smoking and the way the children are sitting in the car, if this was shown on TV today there would be heaps of people complaining.
3. I really like the ads like the lotto ads and the telecom and Vodafone ads.
4. I easily remember the Harvey Norman adds which I really don't like because there really loud.

1. We have less carton adds these days and they are better quality now days and more interesting in some ways. Now days they are more appropriate to be shown on TV.
2. The kids in the back seat were not wearing seat belts the people in that add are larger and this is bad because it sort of encourages it or makes it seem ok to other kids.
3. My favourite add is the Cadbury Gorilla add because I think it is very creative and funny because it is completely irrelevant to what its actually advertising. :)
4. The add that I remember most is the "30 seconds spray and walk away" add because it’s catchy but annoying and that’s why it sticks with me.
