We've got spirit! Yes we do! We've got spirit! How 'bout you?

I hope you all had a great time at Athletics yesterday. Remember when discussing blogs we talked about how they are a way of presenting news? Sure, it's not international news or even national news but your news is still news!

Today you are going to post about Athletics Day. I want you to write as if you are a journalist. Include lots of detail. Paint a picture of the day for someone who was not there ie. me :(

So instead of saying 'It was kewl', explain why it was cool. What surprised you? What was your favourite part of the day and/or least favourite part? How did your house go in the competition? Who was dressed the craziest? What were they wearing?

Do you get the idea? You need to write THREE PARAGRAPHS for this blog. Don't be limited by the questions above you can write about more than that. Perhaps you could make it funny or perhaps you are more of a serious journalist!

If you finish this I want you to add info (remember not too personal) to your profile. I want you to make your blog look like it's yours. Perhaps you could add a photo if you have one on file or you could upload one for homework.

This is our last lesson on blogging. You will maintain the blog throughout the term and it will be assessed in week 6. Next week we are writing profiles for a page in a magazine.

Have a safe weekend and I will see you next week.

Think before you post

Kia ora

Well done to the six people who commented on the previous post. I look forward to reading everyones comments at the end of the week.

Today we are going to think about internet safety. I want you to watch each of the following clips and write a Do and Don't list on your blog about internet safety eg. Don't write your phone number on your profile or personal info pages. I want to see a detailed list on your blog that shows you have carefully watched each video.

I also want you to comment about what it means to be a good online citizen. If you are a good citizen in life you obey set rules like crossing the road at a zebra crossing, picking up litter, you don't steal etc...What does it mean to be a good online citizen?

Today - watch the clips below (if they take time to load, pair up and watch them on the computer next to you)
- Write a Do and Don't list on your blog
- Write a comment on your blog about what it means to be a good online citizen.

For those of you have not posted a comment on yesterday's post you need to do so by the end of the week.

Clips to watch:

Happy Valentines Day!

Kia Ora everyone

Today I want you to write a post about your weekend. What did you get up to? What was a highlight? What wasn't so cool?

I also want you to complete the following task:

Sellabration

In our first media lesson, you identified that advertising was a part of the media. It influences us to buy and think about products and brands.

Below is a link to a segment on Campbell Live a few nights ago. Watch it and consider the following questions. Copy and paste the link into a new window.

http://www.3news.co.nz/Classic-Kiwi-ads-go-online/tabid/367/articleID/142301/Default.aspx

1. How the ads we watch today different from the ads featured in the segment?

2. How is the KFC ad politically incorrect?

3. What are your favourite ads and why?

4. What ads do you easily remember even if they are not your favourites?

Now go to the film commission web site and consider question 1 as you watch the ads.

Copy and paste the address into a new window.

Creating your profile using Publisher

Kia Ora

Today while I'm working on the school magazine, you will be working on your profile page for a magazine.

As you are all at different stages read the following instructions very carefully.

1. If photo taken - download - use picnik to edit if you want - save in your drive

2. If photo not taken - get changed and tell Mr Kendrick where you are going to take it. Return before the end of the period so you can get changed in time for leaving the school.

3. If you are ready to type your profile. Open PUBLISHER (you can find it in OFFICE) Blank document. Create a text box (icon with box and A in it) Make the text box long and slim - like on the exemplars in R219 (ask Mr Kendrick to go and look at them again if you are unsure) Type your words - use 12 pt or smaller.

4. If you are ready - copy and paste your photo onto your doc.
You will need to re size the image - only change the size from the corner of the photo NOT the middle as this scews the image - makes you look long and skinny or squashed!

Have fun and remember to tell Mr Kendrick where you are going.

:)
