Creating your profile using Publisher

Kia Ora

Today while I'm working on the school magazine, you will be working on your profile page for a magazine.

As you are all at different stages read the following instructions very carefully.

1. If photo taken - download - use picnik to edit if you want - save in your drive

2. If photo not taken - get changed and tell Mr Kendrick where you are going to take it. Return before the end of the period so you can get changed in time for leaving the school.

3. If you are ready to type your profile. Open PUBLISHER (you can find it in OFFICE) Blank document. Create a text box (icon with box and A in it) Make the text box long and slim - like on the exemplars in R219 (ask Mr Kendrick to go and look at them again if you are unsure) Type your words - use 12 pt or smaller.

4. If you are ready - copy and paste your photo onto your doc.
You will need to re size the image - only change the size from the corner of the photo NOT the middle as this scews the image - makes you look long and skinny or squashed!

Have fun and remember to tell Mr Kendrick where you are going.

My favourite song #2

My favourite song is the theme song for Jem and the Holograms. It reminds me of when I was a kid and it reminds me that the 80's were the best ever! Check it out!

Keeping safe online

In media today we finalised our blog designs and considered how we keep safe online. We had a class brainstorm where we generated some ideas eg strict privacy settings. We then wrote a post on our own blogs about how we keep safe online at home and at school. Even though there are some dangers when using the internet, the cool stuff outweighs the bad.

Justin Bieber Fever

Justin Beiber has created quite a bit of fuss recently. Teenage girls have been swooning as he has sung his little heart out.

Your task to go to Google.com and click on the Show Options tab on the left side.
Show options...

this list will appear - select News

All results
Discussions

Choose a news item that has something to do with his visit to NZ. Read/view the news item and copy and paste the link to your blog and then summarise the article.

Then return to the options list and select updates - these are twitter updates. Find the update that mentions his secret Auckland show - click on this link and read/view the information.

On your blog - write about what you think would happen if JB turned up at Sacred Heart. How would people react?

Finally, who is your favourite singer and what is your favourite song? Find a music video on youtube and embed the URL onto your blog.

Have fun!

Sellabration

In our first media lesson, you identified that advertising was a part of the media. It influences us to buy and think about products and brands.

Below is a link to a segment on Campbell Live a few nights ago. Watch it and consider the following questions.

http://www.3news.co.nz/Classic-Kiwi-ads-go-online/tabid/367/articleID/142301/Default.aspx

1. How the ads we watch today different from the ads featured in the segment?

2. How is the KFC ad politically incorrect?

3. What are your favourite ads and why?

4. What ads do you easily remember even if they are not your favourites?

Now go to the film commission web site and consider question 1 as you watch the ads.
